I have some unfortunate and very difficult news to share. After 45 years of publishing, due to several industry factors, we are going to have to discontinue the Backwoodsman Magazine. My wife and I have exhausted all of our resources, and as hard and heartbreaking as it is, we have to make a pivot before we go down with the ship. The declining and ever-shrinking magazine industry has become too unpredictable to sustain any type of consistency with producing and distributing a magazine. The truth is the entire industry is one business move away from wiping out more magazines. Summer 2025 was sadly our final issue.
I sincerely apologize and I’m so appreciative for the support and contributions that you have made throughout the years. My family and I, plus my late parents are forever grateful. There would have never been a Backwoodsman Magazine if it wasn’t for the support from the greatest collection of readers on the planet!
The last thing we ever wanted was to let you down and we promise we will not leave you high & dry. If you have an active subscription, the most surefire way to be refunded would be with a choice of either back issues or with our Best of Backwoodsman Volume # 5, depending on the remaining terms of your subscription. We’ve recently discovered a lost treasure of back issues that have not been made available for sale to the public, so it could be an option, if you so choose. I’ll also be handpicking knives from Charlie Sr.’s collection for those of you interested in this type of reimbursement. Please note, these will not be knives listed for sale on the Backwoods Mercantile Website.
It may take a little time to work through determining reimbursement, but in the end, please know we will take care of you. We aren’t able to refund credit cards and can’t predict how long it will take before we are able to start issuing refund checks, but the folks who choose to receive back issues or knives should get them pretty quickly. Dealing with deaths, Hurricanes, and the plethora of life’s many curveballs, we never missed an issue or deadline, so this is very hard to let it go… Whether you’ve been reading forever or just recently discovered us, please be assured that the brand is still alive, and will come back in different formats soon! We’re just removing the magazine part from the Backwoodsman. Please check back to our website for periodic updates about the 1st 4 Backwoodsman Books that will be out next Spring!
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this transition. We will be working with the fulfillment data over the next couple of months to determine subscriber balances, but please continue to reach out to Tiffany (tiffany.bwm@gmail.com) or call our toll free number (877-465-4120) to get a message to her if you need anything in the meantime.
Thanks,
Charlie/BWM
